Welcome Firsties of 2015-16!

The reality that summer is over has sunk in, and we are hard at work in the Cialini class.
The first 4 weeks went so fast.

Here is a little view of what we have been up to in September.

Teaching nouns this early in the school year was new for me as a first grade teacher, but the class was amazing.  Look at our NOUN TOWN!

Since that was so much fun we decided to make VERB VILLAGE the following week!

And then it came time to learn how to do first grade centers. We love center time!

Working with Words

Listening

 Skill Puzzles

Poetry

Word Wall

Computers

Art

All of our centers revolve around the Language Arts skills.  We read and write during all centers.

Mrs. Bellettini's class came in to teach us how to do the 3 Part Drill for learning our sight words.

We used iPads to practice writing our numbers properly. You can download the app called Writing Wizard if you want to practice at home.

As you can see September has been quite busy!!!!!

Headhunter and Readers

I have not posted since the 50th day and it is now day 87.  YIKES! January is the time of year when our Firsties become busy little readers.  It's the time of year I love....no not because of SNOW, but because I see the love of reading in my students. They are always asking to read, read, read.  Here is a picture where three friends wanted to read the same book together in a little group without me asking them to do it.
 A TEACHER'S DREAM!!!!!

And all the other Firsties are choosing to read as well.

January also brings a time of learning harder words.  In both spelling and sight words we have been learning some tricky rules.  Here we are playing Headhunters where we have to read the sight word that is stuck to our friend's head.  We are not supposed to tell them the word, just read it and write it down silently on our recording sheet.  At the end of the game we should be able to tell what word is on our own head.  FUN!!

November ends with a bang!

The end of November in first grade was filled with fun!  We celebrated the 50th day of school by dressing like we went back in time. We danced to Barbara Ann using Wii Just Dance to get the day started.

 The Dudes

The Ladies

Too cute for words.
(They were VERY willing to pose for the camera!)

This month included some CONTRACTION SURGERY as well.

And finally a visit from a wonderful mom who made a yummy craft with the class.
Munchkin acorns!
Munchkins with icing rolled in sprinkles with a pretzel stick stem

"DELISH!"

When we asked if anyone wanted another one this is what we got.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!

I Mustache You a Question

Mrs. Doran, our awesome student teacher, taught a super fun lesson about asking and answering questions in writing.  As you can see below she used the cutest prop to do so....

"I mustache you a question"

Students had to ask one another a question and write it following the sentence rules for a question.  Then record their partner's answer written as a statement, of course.

Keep the learning fun at all times!!!!!
